To effectively control this vast area this Commissionerate is divided into eight divisions located at the following states for effective control over the entire North Eastern region:

ii Aizawl Entire State of Mizoram.
iii Dhubri Dhubri, Bongaigaon, Goalpara, Kokrajhar and Barpeta districts of western Assam; West, East and South Garo Hills districts of Meghalaya.
iv Dimapur Entire State of Nagaland; Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Jorhat, Sibsagar, Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts of Assam; parts of Nagaon district; Lohit, Changlang and Tirap districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
v Guwahati Kamrup, Nalbari, Sonitpur, Darrang, Marigaon, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts of Assam; parts of Nagaon and Karbi Anglong districts; several districts of Arunachal Pradesh including Tawang, West Kameng, East Kameng, Upper & Lower Subansiri, West Siang, Upper & East Siang, Dibang Valley and Lower Dibang Valley.
vi Imphal Entire State of Manipur.
vii Karimganj Hailakandi, Karimganj and Cachar districts of Assam; parts of North Cachar Hills district; North Tripura district of Tripura.
viii Shillong East Khasi Hills, Ri-Bhoi, Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills districts of Meghalaya.
